ABC News Primetime Sex Trafficking in America
ABC News Primetime Sex Trafficking in America
We’re used to hearing about human trafficking in foreign countries, but what Americans might not realize is that it’s happening in their backyards. ABC News takes viewers through the shocking stories of two young American women, ages 15 and 19, who vanished from main street U.S.A into the dark world of human trafficking and prostitution.
Miya Lillie was thrilled when she got her job selling sunglasses at a suburban Arizona mall. It was a new job at a favourite hangout and an opportunity to pay off debts and save for college. But that perception would change forever when one day she was taken by the intent of modeling and left the mall with a couple she’d just met. Miya states she was taken on a frightening journey against her will and ended up on the mean streets of San Francisco, California. Despite the terror and danger, Miya bravely prefabricated a run for her life.
Two months after Miya’s disappearance – just 15 miles away – a fifteen year old, straight-A student tells her story of being kidnapped from her own front yard while meeting someone she thought was her friend. Her abduction was followed by horrific violence and what is known as a “breakdown period,” which, according to police, for this teenager included multiple rapes, drugging and being kept in a dog kennel. Just one week after her kidnapping, the prostitution began, with men arriving for her day and night. Terrified that a fleeing would result in her death or her family’s, the young girl would remain captive for 40 days. But eventually she was found – it’s how she was found that’s so disturbing.
